Smartisan has announced a new smartphone, and it seems to be the world’s first smartphone to sport 1TB of internal storage, at least according to the provided info. This phone’s name is the Smartisan R1, and it is the company’s new flagship smartphone. This handset comes with an 84-percent screen-to-body ratio, and it sports a rather thin notch, similar to the one on the Essential PH-1, as Smartisan needed a place to include a front-facing camera and an earpiece. Other than that notch, the phone sports really thin bezels, with a ‘chin’ below the phone’s display.
The Smartisan R1 is made out of metal and glass, while a rear-facing fingerprint scanner is included in the package as well. You may not be able to see the fingerprint scanner on the back, because the company’s logo doubles as a fingerprint scanner, and this is not the first time Smartisan did something like this. Three physical keys are included on the right-hand side of the device, while an extra one sits on the left. Regular Android buttons sit on the right, while the key on the left is quite probably customizable, though we’re not sure. This smartphone features a 6.17-inch fullHD+ (2242 x 1080) display (18.7:9 display aspect ratio), while Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection is included on top of it. The phone comes in several variants, a 6GB RAM model is available in both 64GB and 128GB storage flavors, while the phone’s 8GB RAM model comes with either 128GB or 1TB of storage, and we’re looking at UFS 2.1 flash storage here.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor fuels the Smartisan R1, while you will find 12-megapixel (Sony’s IMX363 sensor, f/1.8 aperture, 1.4um pixel size, 4-axis OIS, dual PD extreme focus) and 20-megapixel (Sony’s IMX350 sensor, f/1.75 aperture, 1um pixel size, 6P lens) cameras on the back of this phone. A 24-megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture, ArcSoft’s algorithm) sits on the front side of this phone, while Bluetooth 5.0 is also a part of the package. The device comes with two nano SIM card slots, while it has global LTE band support, as you can see in one of the images down below. A 3,600mAh battery is included in this package, while the phone supports Quick Charge 4+ fast charging as well. Android (exact version was not mentioned by the OEM) comes pre-installed the device, along with Smartisan OS skin. The phone comes in Carbon Black and Pure White color variants, though only 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage models are available in Pure White color. The Smartisan R1 with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage is priced at 3,499 Yuan ($549) in China, while that same RAM model with 128GB of storage costs 3,999 Yuan ($627). The Smartisan R1 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at 4,499 Yuan ($706), while the phone’s 8GB RAM model with 1TB of storage comes with a price of 8,848 Yuan ($1,388).
