It can be a worry at times regarding the installation of AdWords codes, especially if we are not the individual in charge of managing the website. We might review the conversion reports in AdWords and wonder whether the codes have been installed correctly or even at all; yet, if we don’t have coding knowledge then it can be hard to check it out ourselves.
Google has given us peace of mind though with two free and simple to use methods in checking the status of our conversion tracking codes. The first method can be achieved by logging into your AdWords account and then clicking on the Tools tab located towards the top of the page. Next, click on Conversions from the drop down menu and locate a column with the title Tracking Status. Here you can hover your mouse cursor over the speech bubble to see what the status of your code is.
The second method is just as simple and can be used while navigating your website; it does mean downloading a Chrome extension however. The extension is called Tag Assistant (by Google) and can be downloaded via the Chrome Web Store. After installation it’s simply a case of visiting the page where your conversion tracking code is supposed to be set up, then in the right hand corner of the Chrome interface you should be able to see the Tag Assistant icon. After clicking this you will be prompted through a couple of screens before being given a summary of the code status (for both remarketing and conversion tracking).
Using one of these will save you the cost of clicking an ad and running a test conversion while also giving you reassurance that your hard work won’t go unnoticed!
