#Periscope Now supports 360-Degree Live Streaming

Periscope has announced that they are adding support for 360-degree live streaming in their app, it is currently being tested in a small group of beta testers. The app announced on their Medium blog today, that they are introducing 360-degree live streaming, allowing you to use cameras like the Gear 360 and many others to live stream in 360-degrees, which adds a whole new element to live streaming on Periscope. The feature is currently in a limited beta, and you can join the waitlist by hitting the link below.
The company believes that adding support for 360-degree video is going to be a game changer, as live streams from Periscope already make you feel like you’re stepping in someone else’s shoes, and now you can quite literally do that with 360-degree streams. Simply by turning your phone while watching a stream, you can explore the world around the person that is live streaming on Periscope. The company hasn’t announced support for Daydream or Gear VR or any other VR platform just yet, but that may be coming in the future. Which would allow users to put their phone in their Daydream View and move their head around to see what’s going on in these videos.
Periscope launched in May of 2015 on Android, and when it launched, it was popular, even forcing Meerkat to close its doors. However since then, it has seemed like Twitter has forgotten about their Periscope app. Adding in the functionality to live stream directly from a Tweet, without needing to install Periscope. But now it is clear that Periscope is still chugging along. And that Twitter is finding more ways to integrate Periscope with the Twitter app to get users to use both platforms a bit more. Something that they have been struggling with for a while, when it comes to Twitter, and a big reason why they haven’t grown their monthly active users base. The Periscope app is available on both Android and iOS, and can be downloaded for free. It’s a great app to use to go live and simply talk to people. Of course, Periscope has a lot of competition from the likes of Instagram and Facebook now, with their Live Video features.
