The Samsung Gear S2 is getting a huge new upgrade today. Coming in as version R732XXU2DPFB, it’ll bring a vast number of notable improvements. One of the most exciting is the addition of automatic sleep tracking.
For those who don’t know what it is, automatic sleep tracking can analyze your sleep patterns to see when you enter and exit REM sleep. It can use this information to wake you up at times when you’re likely to feel most restful, as waking up too early or too late can cause you to feel disoriented and tired. The Gear S2 already had sleep tracking prior to this update, but you had to enter the mode manually. This obviously wasn’t ideal for folks like me who don’t exactly know when they will fall asleep.
Here’s a full list of all the other changes:
A new watch face named My Photo
Social Network Sharing Features
New S Voice commands for starting the timer and message apps (in the US, South Korea, China, and Japan)
Addition of a Contacts app and accompanying widget
Option for GMT and sunrise/sunset times
Displays life index in the Weather app
Schedule widget now marks days which have events
New Gear S2 watches will now download recommend apps directly from the Gear S2
Samsung also notes you’ll want to be on the latest version of the Samsung Gear Manager app to go along with this update, which you can find right here. It’s 61.11MB in size.
